Contract Research and Development
All aspects of work relating to mycoplasmas can be undertaken, our commercial background lending appreciation of clients constraints and necessary scheduling.
This page lists possible projects but please ask about your specific requirements so that you can assess our capabilities.
ANTIMICROBIAL SUSCEPTIBILITY TESTING
Testing can range from individual isolates to large-scale studies on, for example, novel compound screening, product registration or field trials.
The MIC procedure applied is that of Tanner and Wu (1992) which utilises actively growing mycoplasmas.
VALIDATION OF DOWNSTREAM PROCESSING PROCEDURES FOR MYCOPLASMA REMOVAL i.e. SPIKING STUDIES
VACCINE DEVELOPMENT
Production media can be designed and yields assessed up to pilot scale prior to hand-over of procedures for scaling up.
Support can continue through production with, additionally, design of vaccine test protocols and contact with Regulatory Authorities.
ISOLATION SURVEYS
These could be required for the assessment of vaccine or antibiotic treatments or where antibiotic susceptibility of isolates required determination.
Our laboratories can assist in the isolation of mycoplasmas of clinical and veterinary significance in laboratories which lack access to suitable media and expertise.
High quality isolation work can be achieved in any country using either courier services to return samples to our laboratories or by the supply of freeze-dried media.
FILTER TESTING
The widespread use of filters - from syringe size to cartridge/capsule - for sterilising cell culture media necessitates testing of new products for mycoplasma retention.
Contract work usually requires validation of viable unit capture on membranes prior to large volume filter testing. (See microscopic and macroscopic appearance of A. laidlawii on Mycoplasma Experience A. laidlawii Membrane Detection Medium).
DIAGNOSTICS DEVELOPMENT
These could involve the development of kits based on our freeze-dried products, the development of isolation kits for specific organisms or selective/diagnostic medium development. (Our media products have been successfully freeze dried and maintain stability over several years shelf life).
Application of antibodies to mycoplasma detection and identification or antigens for antibody detection.
